Spring Mommy + Me Session | Arizona Family Photographer
This mama brought the magic!
When we were walking to the location for this mommy + me photo session, she was telling me how she loved how much guidance and direction I give. She stated that it gives her so much confidence and that she knows her photos will be amazing!
While my ego loved hearing this, I knew that it was time to share some words in a blog post about how things work when you entrust Light + Pine Photography to photograph your sweet family. What stood out to me from our discussion was just how much location, timing, and what you wear for your session truly matters! I understand a photo session with me is an investment, and I do my best to encourage those that work with me to follow certain guidelines to get the most out of the photo session.
I always send a welcome email that explains guidelines to follow which includes being weary of trends and choosing a color scheme that will match your home decor for printing purposes. I suggest wearing clothes that are comfortable and make you feel like the best version of yourself. I’ve heard other photographers call it your “Sunday Best.” That statement doesn’t resonate with me, because my Sunday Best is wearing sweatpants at home whilst eating tacos and watching Outlander. The color scheme you choose should also fit well and not clash or blend in with the location you choose. I do my best in preparing you by offering guidance and direction. I have even sent messages back and forth with those that have worked with me to show me phone snaps of their outfits to give my artistic opinion.
This leads me to another point I wanted to share. I learned just how much my artistic opinion and voice does matter when it comes to a session, and I love when I get mamas that trust me. If you are looking for what you see in my portfolio on my website, Pinterest, Instagram, or Facebook, then trust when I say timing is everything! It simply can not be executed well to fake that “god light” of “golden hour.” I have seen several amazing photographers use strobes and lighting equipment, but that is one statement I will stand behind forever. If you want that golden light of sunset, shoot at sunset!

Lastly, I will briefly touch on the location for your session. There are many things I take into consideration when planning your family session. I ask questions about the ages of the child(ren), and how adventurous you are with full intent on finding the best options for a location. Will your family be able to walk a mile along a beautiful trail? Will you be able to handle a little drive with an infant and a toddler? I also ask you to look over my portfolio to see what images you may be drawn to. All of these will give me an idea and help serve you and your family the best I can and prepare for an amazing experience together to create magic!
